Aichi governor declares state of emergency

Aichi governor declares state of emergency The governor of Aichi Prefecture in central Japan has declared a state of emergency amid a rapid increase in coronavirus infections, including untraceable cases, in the prefecture. Omura Hideaki said at a prefectural taskforce meeting on Friday that he will take all possible measures to protect residents' lives and health. He pledged to work with all people of Aichi to overcome the difficult situation. Omura strongly urged residents to refrain from non-essential outings and avoid the "three Cs" -- closed spaces, crowded places and close conversation -- when they have to leave home. Omura said companies in the prefecture will not be asked to suspend business for now. Prime Minister Abe Shinzo on Tuesday declared a state of emergency for Tokyo and six other prefectures, excluding Aichi.
