Canadian Ambassador Talks over Challenging Issues With the BMA

On December 9, 2020, Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok,  welcomed H.E. Mrs. Sarah Taylor, Ambassador of Canada to Thailand and her delegation on occasion of assumption of duty as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Canada to the Kingdom of Thailand. In this regard, The BMA executives and officials from Environment Department, Drainage and Sewerage Department, Traffic and Transport Department, Strategy and Evaluation Department and International Affairs Office jointly welcomed the delegation at Amornphimarn Room, Bangkok City Hall.

During the courtesy call, Canadian Ambassador praised the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration for its success in management and control of COVID-19 situation which made Thailand become one of the countries with rapid recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The ambassador also mentioned the progress of anti-COVID-19 vaccine development in Canada that the Canadian government has worked closely together with private sectors to develop the vaccine for the prevention of coronavirus disease. In addition, the ambassador asked about the topics of interests such as following up the progress of cooperative activity operation under Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), treatment and recovery for those who were affected from COVID-19 outbreak, solutions on the right of children and women in Thailand, Bangkok’s strategic plans to cope with global climate change, etc. The ambassador believed that after the situation subsided, representatives from both sides would have opportunity to reconsider the formation of cooperative activities as well as discuss mutual interested topics afterwards.

In this regard, the Canadian ambassador introduced the Canadian companies. Those companies offer advanced technology solution in terms of environmental management such as particulate matter (PM2.5) monitoring and measurement, waste management, electric vehicle production and wastewater and sewerage management. Also, the ambassador proposed Bangkok to have a trial use of technologies from the said companies in the specific areas that would be free of charge for 2 – 3 months. Governor of Bangkok agreed that both sides should consider the possibilities of forging the future cooperation.
