Beijing (Cantonese: 北京 jyutping: Bākgìng / Mandarin Chinese: 北京 pinyin: Běijīng) is the capital of People’s Republic of China, nickname is “Jing”, located in the northeast region of Huabei plain. The original name was “Ji” during the period of Autumn and Spring and Warring States. It was the capital of Yan State. In the Liao Dynasty, it was the secondary capital named “Yan Jing” and has become the capital of China since Jin Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty until Republic of China.

Beijing currently comprises 16 administrative county-level subdivisions including 16 urban, suburban, and rural districts, and becomes the metropolis under the central administration. All areas of Beijing are 16,800 square kilometers. At the end of 2017, Beijing’s population is amount of 21,107,000 people. It is also the center of urbanization, cultures, sciences, education, and transportation junction across the People’s Republic of China, as well as the domestic and international well-known tourism city. The important tourist destinations such as the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden Palace, Temple of Heaven, Imperial Tombs of Ming Dynasties, Summer Palace, Fragrant Hills, etc. Currently, Beijing is one of four special administrative regions as a metropolis of People’s Republic of China, the ranking is the same as Province. After Beijing established as the capital of People’s Republic of China in 1949 and rapidly developed during the 20th century, Beijing currently has alternative roads and skyscrapers, but still maintain the ancient city condition along with the modern city becoming an important major city in the world. Over the past 30 years, Beijing has been elevated as a world-class metropolis. It is the center of the government for administration and trade. Each year, a large number of foreigners come to contact for trading, tourism, and education. Moreover, making the people of Beijing having better living conditions and quality of life, including getting more and more cultural influence from the West.
