City Information

Moscow (Russian: Москва) is the capital city of the Russia Federation, located at 55°45' N 37°37' E. on the bank of the Moskva River (503 km), a tributary of the River Oka. It has an area of 2,511 square kilometres and estimated population of 12,476,000 (as of 2019), which is roughly one tenth of the entire Russian population. Moscow was established as the country’s capital in 1480, and even the decline in importance because of the relocation of capital to St. Petersburg in 1712, Moscow has gradually been developed and prosperous. After the Russian Revolution in 1917, the capital was moved back to Moscow and it has been Russia’s stable centre of politics, administration, finance, economy, industry, education and tourism until now.

Climate

        Overall climate conditions of Moscow are considered as moderate continental. In general severe frosts and exhausting heat aren’t usual in Moscow. However lately weather deviations become more frequent. There is probability of thaw at December and at summer cooling and showers are possible.

Autumn in Moscow have wide range of temperatures. At September and early October temperature may rise up to 25 °C (77 °F), and rains become more frequent and longer but lose intensity. At October weather become damp and dull with occasional night frosts.

- Winter

Winter in Moscow is rather cold with snow. Average temperature range is wide between -5 and –20 °C (+23…-4 °F). Weather at January and February are usually formed under impact of Arctic or Siberian anticyclones. At this time range of average drops to -10 and –25 °C (+14…-13 °F). Snow cover reaches 700 mm (27.5”)

Sister City Agreement

- On 19 June 1997, Mr. Yuri M. Luzkhov, Mayor of Moscow and Mr. Bhichit Rattakul, Governor of Bangkok signed the Protocol of Friendly Ties between Moscow, the Russian Federation and Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand at Moscow.

- On 2 September 2015, Mrs. Pusadee Tamthai, Deputy Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Sergey Cheremin, Moscow Government Minister, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow signed Programme of Cooperation for the Period from 2015 - 2017 between Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand and Moscow, the Russian Federation at Bangkok.

- On 13 December 2017, Mrs. Wanvilai Promlakano, Deputy Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Sergey Cheremin, Moscow Government Minister, Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow signed Programme of Cooperation for the Period from 2018 - 2020 between Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand and Moscow, the Russian Federation at Bangkok.
