City Information

          Washington D.C. (D.C. is abbreviated from District of Colombia) is the capitol of the United States of America. It is located eastwards of the country next to States of Virginia and Maryland on the left bank of the Potomac River. Washington, D.C. was officially founded on July 16, 1790 after the American Revolutionary War by the Constitution of the United States. The city’s name is derived from George Washington, the first US’s president. It covers the area of 177 square kilometres with approximate population of 711,511 (as of 2019), considered the country’s 22nd most populated city. Washington D.C. is nicknamed the world’s political capitol After more than 200 years as the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. has continuously developed in terms of area expansion, African American cultural heritage, sexual equality, the hub of lots of international organizations as well as one’s of the world’s best destinations for tourism.

Climate

        Washington, D.C., weather is mild compared to many parts of the United States. It has 4 seasons, including winter, spring, summer and autumn. Yearly average temperature is about 15 °C, the highest temperature is about 32 °C and the lowest temperature is about -1 °C.

Springtime is beautiful when the flowers blossom. The weather is wonderful in the spring, and this is the busiest time of year for tourist attractions.

During the summer months, Washington, D.C., can get hot, humid and uncomfortable. Late July and most of August are a good time to stay indoors in the air conditioning.

Autumn is the best time of the year for outdoor recreation. The vibrant colors of the fall foliage and the cool temperatures make this a great time to walk, bike, and picnic and enjoy other outdoor activities.

Sister City Agreement

- On 19 February, 1962, Mr. Walter N. Tobriner, President of Board of Commissioners of the District of Colombia, as the Honorary President, and Mr. John B. Duncan, Commissioner of the District of Columbia, as the official D.C. representative of the Washington – Bangkok Friendship Council, signed the Resolution on Sister City Affiliation between Washington D.C., the United States of America and Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand at Washington D.C.

- On 15 July, 2002, Mr. Anthony A. William, Mayor of Washington D.C. Mr. Samak Sundaravej, Governor of Bangkok signed the Reaffirmation Agreement between Washington D.C., the United States of America and Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand at Washington D.C.

- On 18 May 2012 Mr. Vincent C. Gray, Mayor of Washington D.C. and M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, Governor signed the Resolution on the Reaffirmation Agreement for Sister City Affiliation between Washington D.C., the United States of America and Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand at Washington D.C.
