Wuhan is the capital city of Hubei Province and the largest city in central China. It has a total area of 8,494 square kilometers, most of which is plain and there are some hills with many lakes and ponds. The city is located at 113°41'E to 115°05'E and 29°58'N to 31°22' N.
Wuhan is called 'the River City' for there is the Yangtze River, the World's third largest river and its largest tributary, the Han River converge within the city. There are nearly 200 lakes in Wuhan, including the East Lake which is the largest lake in China.

The city has an approximate population of 8,851,000 in 2024. There are 13 administrative districts. The downtown districts include Jiang'an, Jianghan, Qiaokou, Hanyang, Wuchang, Hongshan and Qingshan Districts, the new towns include Dongxihu, Caidian, Jiangxia, Huangpi, Xinzhou and Hannan Districts and the old towns include Wuchang, Hanyang, Jiang'an, Jianghan and Qiaokou Districts.

Wuhan is the political, economic, industrial, cultural and educational center of Hubei province. Moreover, it is the largest transportation hub in central China and the country’s largest inland and cargo distribution center. The industrial development in Wuhan focuses on the optoelectronic and information technology sectors, modern manufacturing, steel and new materials, bioengineering and new medicine, logistics, water, environmental technology and sustainable city development. The advantages of pillar manufacturing industries include automotive parts, iron and steel industry and the optoelectronic communication industry.
There are three state-level development zones include Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone (Zhuankou Development Zone), East Lake Hi-Tech Development Zone (Optical Valley of China) and Wuhan Wujiashan Economic and Technological Development Zone.

- Mr. Amorn Kitchawengkul, Deputy Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Shao Weimin, Deputy Mayor of Wuhan signed Memorandum of Understanding Between the City of Wuhan of the People's Republic of China and the City of Bangkok of the Kingdom of Thailand on the Establishment of Friendly City Relationship on 20 November 2013 in Wuhan.
- Mrs. Wiparat Chaiyanukij, Deputy Permanent Secretary for BMA and Mr. Liu Zhihui, Secretary-General of Wuhan Municipal People’s Government signed Agreement Between Wuhan Municipal People's Government of the People's Republic of China and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration of the Kingdom of Thailand on the Establishment of Sister Cities Relationship on 16 November 2018 in Wuhan.
