City Information      

Ankara (Turk. Engürü) (formerly Ancyra and Angora) is the capital city of the Republic of Turkey. The city is located in the south east of Istanbul in the central Anatolia, between the branches of Kızılırmak and Sakarya Rivers. Latitude and longitude GPS coordinates for Ankara are: 39°55'11.53"N, 32°51'15.37"E. Ankara has a total area of 2,516 square kilometer. The city is bordered by Eskisehir Province in the west, Çankırı Province and Bolu Province in the north, Kırıkkale Province and Kırşehir Province in the east and Konya Province and Aksaray Province in the south. 

Ankara has an approximate population of 5,018,000 in 2019 (UNdata). The city is the center of Turkey's government and a number of diplomatic missions are located in Ankara. Moreover, Ankara is Turkey's second most important industrial city after Istanbul. Main products include wine, beer, flour, sugar, biscuits, milk, macaroni, cement, terrazzo (mosaic paving), construction materials, and tractors. Besides, tourism and hospitality industry is growing rapidly in Ankara.

Seasons:

- Spring

Ankara's spring is from March to May. The average temperature in this season is 11 °C.  During springtime, Ankara is remarkably beautiful as flowers bloom and trees in the forests put on green coats. One of the most important public holiday in spring is Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day which is annually held on 19 May. Many people celebrate this day by watching sports at their local stadiums and playing sports such as marathon, etc.

- Summer
Ankara's summer begins in June and ends in August. This season is the best time of the year to have a vacation in Turkey since the weather is warm and nice. The hottest months are July and August with the highest temperature of 31°C while the average temperature in the whole season is 22.7 °C. There are a few summer holidays in Ankara such as Ramadan, June Solstice, Democracy and National Unity Day, and Victory Day, etc.

- Autumn
This season in Ankara begins in September and ends in November. The weather is generally cool since the temperature gets lower in autumn. The average temperature in this season is 13 °C. Tree leaves beautifully turn yellow, gold and red. Moreover, it is a harvest time of the year. It is recommended to taste the local fruits and vegetables while visiting Ankara.
