City Information

Thua Thien Hue Province is located in the Northern-Central coastal region of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, with the gps coordinates of 16° 27' 49.3668'' N and 107° 35' 27.1176'' E.  The province has a total area of 5,065 square kilometers. The main landforms include mountainous area, low hilly area, plains, rammers, lagoons and sandbanks.

Thua Thien Hue borders Quang Tri Province to the north, Quang Nam Province and Da Nang City to the south, Lao People's Democracy Republic to the west with the border line of 87.97 kilometers and the East Sea to the east with the coast line of 120 kilometers.

The total length of rivers and streams flowing through Thua Thien-Hue is approximately 300 kilometers. The main rivers in Thua Thien-Hue are the O Lau River and the Huong River.
The famous mountains include Ngu Binh Mountain and Bach Ma Mountain. There are 120 mineral points and quarries with 25 mineral kinds found in the province, such as limestone, kaolin, black and grey granite, imenit, peat, gold, tint, titan, lead, iron, zinc, etc.

In 2019, the province has a population of 1,128,620. There are 558,531 people who live in the city area and 570,089 in the rural area of the province. There are various ethnic groups living in Thua Thien Hue such asViet (Kinh), Coto, Ta Oui, Bru-van, Kieu, etc.

The mainstay industries of Thua Thien-Hue consist of food and beverage, garment and textile, footwear leather, agriculture-forestry-fishery products, chemical (basic chemicals, fertilizer, petrochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry and cosmetic chemistry), manufacturing mechanics, electronic, telecom equipment, information technology, new technology products, renewable energy, software technology, digital content and construction materials.

Sister City Agreement:

On 5 August 2016, M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Nguyen Van Cao, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province signed Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Friendly Relations Between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration the Kingdom of Thailand and the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
