Daegu (or Taegu) means 'the great hill' in Korean and refers to Dalgubeol, the place where the first tribe in Daegu settled down. Daegu is a metropolitan city which is located in the southeastern of the Republic of Korea, with the gps coordinates of 35° 52' 17.166'' N and
128° 36' 5.202'' E. The city is the third largest city in the Republic of Korea after Seoul and Busan. It has a total area of 883.5 square kilometers. There are 7 districts and 1 county which include Jung District, Dong District, Seo District, Nam District, Buk District, Suseong District, Dalseo District and Dalseong County. In 2019, Daegu has a population estimated at 2,209,000.
The city has been famous for its good quality of apple products and the city's beautiful ladies who love apples. It was known as 'the city of apples and beauties'.

In the north of Daegu is surrounded by Palgong Mountain and Biseulsan Mountain is in the south. The Geumho River and its tributary Sincheon River flow through the city and
the Nakdonggang River flows in the western area. The city is advantaged by its rich naturefor the city's continuous efforts in planting trees to create the green growth of Daegu.
Many famous writers, painters, and musicians are from Daegu and there are a few annual festivals held in the city to promote creativity and musical innovation, including Daegu International Musical Festival, Daegu International Opera Festival, and Daegu International Body Painting Festival. In 2017, Daegu become a UNESCO Creative City of Music.
The economic structure of Daegu is being developed into an industrial powerhouse which is environmentally friendly and advanced technology. Its institutional capacity is utilized
to promote the city's development of SMEs and structural advancement of traditional industries such as textiles, metals and machinery. In the recent years, the city is notable for its knowledge-based economy and 'Medicity Daegu', the medical capital which represents the leading medical services of the nation. Furthermore, Daegu aims to become the city of the futuristic technology. The five industries which include energy, water, medical, cars of the future, and IoT are being implemented as the new blue print of the ‘Smart City’. Daegu has a plan to establish the '2030 Basic City', a new city brand, the city’s future vision and roadmap for implementation and construction of a new airport for the Yeongnam Region.

Sister City Agreements:
- On 17 August 2017, Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Kwon Youngjin, Mayor of Daegu signed Agreement on the Establishment of Friendship City Relations Between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Kingdom of Thailand
and the Daegu Metropolitan Government, the Republic of Korea.
- On 28 June 2019, Mr. Kriangyos Sudlabha, Deputy Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Lee Seungho, Vice Mayor of Daegu signed Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Kingdom of Thailand and the Daegu Metropolitan City, the Republic of Korea.
