City Information
Shenzhen is a coastal city in Guangdong Province (sheng) of South China. It is located on the eastern bank of the Pearl River, adjoining Hong Kong in the south of the city. It is bordered by Dongguan and Huizhou in the north, Daya Bay and Dapeng Bay in the east, and the Lingding Sea and the mouth of the Pearl River in the west. Its longitude lies between 113.43°E and 114.38°E and its latitude between 22.24°N and 22.52°N. Shenzhen has a total area of 1,997.47 square kilometers. Most of the landforms are hilly, with dotted plain patches. The total population of Shenzhen is approximately 12,129,000 in 2019. There are eight districts which include Luohu, Futian, Nanshan, Yantian, Bao’an, Longgang, Longhua and Pingshan districts, and the other two new areas: Guangming and Dapeng.

In Shenzhen, there are over 310 rivers and streams such as the Maozhou River which is the largest river in the city, the Shenzhen River, the Longgang River, etc. The city has a vast area, which covers 1,145 square kilometers and boasts 261 kilometers of coastline. The notable mountains in Shenzhen include Wutong, Muluan, Tanglang, and Fenghuang or Phoenix mountains.

Shenzhen is the first Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of China which was established in 1980. The city has improved from a tiny town with a population of approximately 30,000 to
a prosperous, innovative, trendy, harmonious, and beautiful metropolis with a population of over 10 million at the present and established many firsts in the world's history of industrialization, urbanization, and modernization. Shenzhen is recognized by economists as the biggest success of more than 4,000 SEZs in the world. Shenzhen is also known as the world's factory. Inc. reported that 90% of the world's electronic goods are made in Shenzhen, including toys, televisions, air conditioning units, mobile phones, and drones. Furthermore, Shenzhen has its sights set on becoming one of the world's leaders in hi-tech innovation and moving from 'Made in China' to 'Designed in China'. There are large hi-tech companies based in Shenzhen, such as Huawei, ZTE, Tencent, DJI, Makeblock, BYD, BGI, Skyworth, Konka Group, etc.

Sister City Agreement:
On 10 July 2015, M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Ai Xuefeng, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen signed Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Sister - City Relations Between the City of Bangkok of the Kingdom of Thailand and the City of Shenzhen of the People's Republic of China.
