Bangkok Delegation Visited Porto, the Republic of Portugal

The Bangkok delegation, led by Mrs. Silapasuai Rawisaengsun, Permanent Secretary for BMA, visited the City of Porto, the Republic of Portugal, by the invitation of Mr. Adolfo Sousa, Municipal Director of Presidency of Porto during 16 – 22 July 2019. The delegation implemented important missions as follows:

  1. Paying a courtesy call on Mr. Rui Moreira, the Mayor of Porto and Mr. Miguel Pereira Leite, President of Porto Municipal Assembly at the Porto City Hall;
  2. Attending briefings with discussion and sharing experiences in the following fields:
    1. City planning; Mr. Pedro Baganha, Porto Municipal Councilor for Urban Planning and for Public Space and Heritage presented about urban planning, historical center, preservation policies and rehabilitation;
    2. Tourism; Mr. Ricardo Valente, Porto Municipal Councilor for Economy, Tourism and Commerce presented about overall tourism policies of Porto, experiences how to promote heritage site tourism and capacity building of officials.
  3. Visiting sites registered as the World Heritage:
    1. Palacio da Bolsa; the Stock Exchange of Porto, a neoclassic architecture built in the 19th century;
    2. Igreja de São Francisco; an old and beautiful building of Gothic style;
    3. Livraria Lello; a Porto’s old and world – renowned library and said as inspiration for J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.

The said visit not only strengthened the cities’ friendly relations but was also the beginning for operating projects in fields of mutual interest which will lead to the concrete benefit in the future.
