On 26 June 2019 at 01:30 p.m., Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, welcomed Mr. Desmond Choo, Mayor of North East District of Republic of Singapore, and his delegation together with representative from Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Bangkok at Amornphimarn Room, Bangkok City Hall. In this regard, Deputy Governor of Bangkok (Mr. Kriangyos Sudlabha), Chairman of Advisors to Governor of Bangkok, Deputy Permanent Secretary for BMA (Mr. Khachit Chatchawanit), and the officials of International Affairs Office jointly welcomed.
Mr. Desmond Choo and his delegation visited Bangkok to participate in the 7th Meeting of Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals and requested to pay a courtesy call on the Governor of Bangkok to strengthen relations between Bangkok and Singapore. For example, Bangkok sent students to visit Singapore under "Friend to Friend" project to study English language; and possible cooperation with Singapore Sports School established by the Singapore government to develop the potential of sportsmen by using the prototype from Australia. Mr. Choo encourage that it would be beneficial if Bangkok could learn and apply this project as a model to further develop the potential of sportsmen. Mr. Choo also commended the Governor’s "NOW" policy which has been taken for only two years but could effectively improve cleanliness and orderliness of Bangkok streets. The Governor of Bangkok also impressed with the development in Singapore as well. For example, in the matter of cleanliness of the country as well as the great numbers of trees in the city. Also, Singapore has high GDP value even though Singapore is a small country with the population less than Bangkok. Also, Mr. Choo greatly appreciated Bangkok’s success for its cooperation with Drone Association of Thailand to use drones in the mission to reduce fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the air as well as the control of the use of drones in private sector. Mr. Choo informed that Singapore has many incidents and concerns about the drones flying in the airport area. The Governor of Bangkok mentioned that the private sector can buy drones, and must register the drone before flying. In addition, Bangkok has a law to prohibit drones from flying near or in the areas of the airports and the royal compounds. The Governor of Bangkok also mentioned that he had proposed some of the solutions on this matter to the Prime Minister’s consideration.
