On 20 June 2019, Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, announces that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will host the 7th Meeting of Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals 2019 during 26-28 June 2019 at the Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok.
The meeting aims to promote cooperation initiative among ASEAN Capitals under the theme of “Enhancing Cooperative Network for Sustainability Future” within the three pillars of the ASEAN Community. At the end of the meeting, all the capital leaders will sign the Bangkok Declaration, to promote integration and create sustainable ASEAN community including support cooperation network among ASEAN countries.
Two initiative projects will be shared in the meeting by the BMA. The first one is Bangkok youth capacity development, comprises of “Friend to Friend” project and “Bangkok Young ASEAN Journalists” project. The second one is local economic development with sustainable cultural tourism that focuses on the development and promotion of existing cultural tourism destination in Bangkok. BMA will introduce Hua Takhe Community Market at Lat Krabang District. Moreover, BMA will exhibit the Preventive Long-term care project in cooperation with Fukuoka prefecture and JICA and Community Economic Development to promote Sustainable Cultural Tourism.
The Meeting will be attended by Governors/Mayors and representatives of the 10 ASEAN Capitals and the ASEAN Secretariat. In addition, there will be representatives from ASEAN Embassies and international organization, such as UCLG ASPAC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and the Thai Chamber of Commerce. The conclusion of this meeting is to further strengthen the cooperative tie and foster concrete joint projects among 10 ASEAN Capitals.
