BMA and UNICEF Thailand Jointly Discuss to Help Improve the Life Quality of Children and Youth

On September 23, 2021, Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, together with Mr. Kachit Chatchawanit, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Mrs. Chitlada Thanomsak, Deputy Director-General of the BMA’s Social Development Department, and officials from BMA’s International Affairs Office jointly welcomed and discussed with Mrs. Kyungsun Kim, UNICEF Representative for Thailand, and the UNICEF Thailand Team through online meeting at Noppharat Room, 5th Floor, Bangkok City Hall. The meeting was held to introduce the overall roles and responsibilities of UNICEF Thailand, and to seek the cooperative opportunity for UNICEF Thailand to support the BMA in the future.

In this regard, Mrs. Kyungsun Kim commended to the BMA's active efforts to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak in many ways, including efforts to implement measures to help and maintain the quality of life for children and young people in Bangkok. The UNICEF Thailand hoped that after this meeting, the further discussion with the BMA would be organized to find the ways to help and improve the life quality of children and youth in Bangkok continuously.  The discussion would be focused on early childhood education management, nutrition for children, and vocational training for youth. In addition, the UNICEF Thailand also mentioned that   the issue of helping stateless children and underprivileged children, including group of NEET (Not in Education, Employee, or Training) was supposed to be closely monitored at the early stage through supportive care in childcare centers and provision of training at different ages.

Anyhow, the Governor of Bangkok said that since Bangkok is a large city and has a diversity of races, religions and social conditions with a large number of populations, the BMA attaches great importance to helping children and youth to have good quality of life. The BMA, therefore, takes care of this issue closely and does its best to provide aid for children and youth of this capital. Once the situation of COVID-19 outbreak in Bangkok subsides, the BMA is pleased to invite the UNICEF Thailand representatives to visit BMA’s Early Childcare Centers and BMA Affiliated Schools, as well as to work together with UNICEF Thailand in order to collaborate and achieve our objectives of enhancing the quality of life for children and youth afterwards.
