The Governor of Bangkok participated in Tree Planting Event on European Union Day

On 9 May 2023, the Governor of Bangkok together with H.E. Mr. David Daly, Ambassador of the European Union to Thailand and Ms. Busadee Santipitak, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs planted 3 Siamese Rosewood trees in the area of the Chaipattana Aerator Monument, Lumpini Park, Pathumwan District in an attempt to conserve endangered species under the Partners Against Wildlife Crime which is an EU-funded action implementation through 12 partner organizations led by the Wildlife Conservation Society.

This event is held to commemorate peace, solidarity, diversity, and unity on the occasion of European Union Day and celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the European Union and the Kingdom of Thailand. Also, it highlighted the long-standing cooperation in various areas such as trade and investment, sustainable development, climate change, culture, human rights, etc. The European Union will donate 600 trees to Bangkok, including Siamese Rosewood, Yellow Star and Teak to participate in “Planting a million trees, creating a green wall to filter dust across the city.”

The Governor of Bangkok said “Europe Day is celebrated as a symbol of unity together and cooperation between European Nations. Moreover, it serves as a reminder of shared ideals and common goals including democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. It is also a celebration of diversity, cultural exchange, and collaboration among nations in creating a better city for all.”

In this regard, ambassadors to Thailand from member countries of the European Union and ASEAN along with diplomats from different countries around the world and other distinguished guests also honored to attend the event.
