The Governor conveyed his congratulations to the Ambassador on his assumption of duty

On October 19, 2023, at 09.00 hrs., H.E. Mr. Darkey Ephraim Africa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa to Thailand, and Mrs. Thobeka Dlamini), Counsellor: Political, Embassy of the Republic of South Africa, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok. On this occasion, Mr. Pimuk Simaroj, Secretary to Governor of Bangkok and Director of International Affairs Office also joined in welcoming the diplomatic corps at Amarin Room, 2nd floor, Bangkok City Hall (Sao Chingcha), Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok. 

During the courtesy call, both sides discussed ways to strengthen the relations and cooperation between South Africa and Thailand. Emphasis was placed on the practices of the BMA in developing Bangkok city to become “The Livable City for All” which the Ambassador was very impressed as he believes that the development of people’s quality of life starts from a small unit like city level then it can contribute to the country’s development accordingly.The Ambassador also added that diplomatic relations also play a crucial role in developing countries, both at the national and local levels. Additionally, the Ambassador was pleased to offer the BMA to engage with cities in South Africa through cooperations and knowledge sharing focusing on each city’s issues. 

The Governor conveyed his congratulations to the Ambassador on his assumption of duty. Both sides agreed to collaborate and share knowledge for city development and solving problems that both countries have in common. The Governor also invited the Embassy to join the events hosted by the BMA such as tree-planting activity and outdoor movie screening event in the next year. In terms of business operation in Bangkok, the BMA is ready to provide support and facilitate South Africa business sector who want to invest in Bangkok.
