Governor of Bangkok Participated in “A Safe Journey with Her” Event

On 26th November 2023 at 07.00 am., Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok and Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, participated in “A Safe Journey with Her” event under the 16 Days of Activism against Gender–Based Violence campaign organized at Wachirabenchathat Park, Chatuchak District, Bangkok. This event consisted of three main activities, including biking, exhibition display, and stage talks.

                   During the opening ceremony, the Governor of Bangkok was invited on the stage to deliver remarks together with Mrs. Gita Sabharwal, UN Resident Coordinator, and H.E. Mr. Patrick Hemmer, Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to Thailand. The Governor’s speech could be summarized that ending violence, especially against women and girls, is vital in all societies worldwide. To implement such act successfully, it needs earnest cooperation from all sectors and regular awareness raising campaign among the public. Even though it takes a long time, the act will finally lead to long–term benefits. After that, the Governor of Bangkok and Deputy Governor of Bangkok joined a group photo session with members of the diplomatic corps and VIP guests, viewed the exhibition, and biked with other cyclists along the route in the park. After all these activities, there was also a stage for dialogue by representatives from the civic society on priorities and opportunities to end violence against women and girls in Thailand.

                  

“A Safe Journey with Her” event under the 16 Days of Activism against Gender–Based Violence campaign is a UN’s international civic society-led event that takes place each year between 25 November – 10 December.” It aims to increase awareness to end violence against women and girls. In 2023, the event’s main theme is “Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women & Girls” mutually cohosted by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), embassies under the Benelux Union (Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands), UN Women, and UNFPA.
