Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, and H.E. Dr. Angela Macdonald PSM, the Australian Ambassador to Thailand, presided over the tree planting ceremony hosted by the BMA and the Australian Embassy

On January 23, 2024, at 08.30 hrs., Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, and H.E. Dr. Angela Macdonald PSM, the Australian Ambassador to Thailand, presided over the tree planting ceremony hosted by the BMA and the Australian Embassy in Thailand at His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 80th Birthday Anniversary Park (Sathon), Soi Ngam Du Phli, Sathon District, Bangkok. The event aims to support the BMA’s policy of “planting a million trees, creating a green wall to filter dust across the city”, and celebrate Australia’s National Day on 26 January. Two “Kaew Chao Chom” trees and 20 freshwater mangroves were planted today. Kaew Chao Chom, with its Latin name “Lignum Vitae”, is known as "Trees of Life” owing to its various range of medicinal applications. As for the freshwater mangroves, they were planted in areas near water barriers due to their water-loving and flood-resistant characteristics. On this occasion, the Embassy also donated approximately 1,000 tree saplings to the Trees Bank of the BMA which will be planted by the BMA at suitable locations in the future.Besides addressing environmental issues for a better quality of life for people living in Bangkok, the activity also strengthens the bond between Bangkok and the Australian Embassy.
