Bangkok and Nonsan City Cohosted 2024 Nonsan Strawberry Festival in Bangkok
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Nonsan City of the Republic of Korea, and Siam Paragon mutually organized the 2024 Nonsan Strawberry Festival in Bangkok during 14 – 18 February 2024 at Parc Paragon, Pathum Wan District. The event started with a meeting and talks at 17.00 hrs. between Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, H.E. Mr. Baek Seong Hyeon, Mayor of Nonsan City, Mr. Seo Won, Council Chairman of Nonsan City, H.E. Mr. Park Yong-Min, the Ambassador of Republic of Korea to Thailand and members of Nonsan City Council, and BMA’s administrators at Pathumma Room, Siam Kempinski Bangkok Hotel.
Then, at 17.40 hrs., all delegates went to Parc Paragon, Siam Paragon to attend the
Korean traditional wedding ceremony between Korean groom and Thai bride, moderated by H.E. Mr. Park Yong-Min, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, as the symbol of good relations between the two countries. In this connection, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok was the Korean groom’s host (Mr. Oh Soek Chon), and H.E. Mr. Baek Seong Hyeon, Mayor of Nonsan City was the Thai bride’s host (Ms. Kattiya Modpradit).
At 18.00 hrs., it was the official opening ceremony of the 2024 Nonsan Strawberry Festival in Bangkok. The Governor of Bangkok greeted all attendees and thanked Nonsan City for selecting Bangkok as the world’s first city to organize this historic event and invited attendees to taste good-quality strawberries from Nonsan City. He also mentioned that the event would play an important role in promoting tourism and good relations in the future.
H.E. Mr. Baek Seong Hyeon, Mayor of Nonsan City, expressed his delight in organizing this event with Bangkok, and it was the first time for a Korean local government agency to organize the event in a foreign city. This event aimed to present top agricultural products from Nonsan City abroad and hoped that foreign tourists and Thai citizens would have fun with the event and taste strawberries from Nonsan City. He also conveyed his thanks to all agencies concerned for collaborating and leading the success of this event.
H.E. Mr. Park Yong-Min, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand said that this event would have Bangkok filled with the scent of strawberry, a kind of winter fruit. The popularity of Korean culture in Bangkok has derived from perseverance and earnest action. This event was the Nonsan’s vision in organizing joyful and various activities. In the Republic of Korea, local administration agencies have continuously organized different activities. He was also confident that the relations between Bangkok and Nonsan City would be sustainably maintained.
After the opening ceremony, there were K-pop and T-pop performances by PIXXIE, We;Na, PROXIE, and GreatGuys. The 2024 Nonsan Strawberry Festival in Bangkok was originated by Nonsan City, the Republic of Korea in organizing the first-ever international event. This event aims to internationally present the good-quality strawberry from Nonsan City, support the capacity of Korean agricultural produce to the world market, and promote the good relations between Nonsan City and Bangkok. This event will be the first step in implementing other city-to-city cooperation in the future.
