Ambassador for the rights of LGBT+ people of the French Republic had a discussion meeting with Governor of Bangkok and visited BKK Pride Clinic

On 20th March 2024 at 14.00 hrs., H.E. Mr. Jean – Marc BERTHON, Ambassador for

the rights of LGBT+ people of the French Republic and delegates, including Ms. Enora Céret-Lartigues, LGBT+ rights focal point, department of Asia and Oceania, Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Sébastien de Vaujany, First Secretary, Gender Equality and Diversity Officer, French Embassy in Thailand had a discussion meeting with Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, for the cooperation on rights of LGBT+ people. In this regard, Assoc. Prof. Tavida Kamolvej, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Mrs. Pavinee Rungthonkij, Deputy Director-General of Health Department, Miss Nattinee Isarankura, Director of Public Health Communicable Disease Office, Miss Pannarai Chingchitr, Director of International Affairs Office and relating officers, jointly welcomed the delegation at Public Health Center 3, Bang Sue, Bang Sue District, Bangkok.

                   The Governor of Bangkok expressed his delight that the Ambassador and delegates were interested in the BMA ‘s mission operation on LGBT+ people. The BMA, under its regulations and responsibilities, has set up policies and visions on creating a liveable city that focuses on participation from all citizens, affording rights and equity, and providing primary medical care by BKK Pride Clinic to the target group. The Ambassador mentioned equal marriage in France which is the marriage of two people of the same sex under legal protection. The Governor of Bangkok added that for Thai society, such a matter is still conservative in theory, but it is more open in practice both in terms of laws and acceptance from the society and families.

                   Assoc. Prof. Tavida Kamolvej, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, provided the Ambassador and delegates with a summary of the main missions implemented by the BMA’s 69 public health centers. These centers can be compared to the frontline units to provide health care services to local citizens in terms of health promotion, disease treatment and prevention, and relating knowledge provided to the public. At present, there are 31 public health centers mainly providing services to Thai citizens with some service users from CLMV countries. Relating services are linked to the BMA’s hospitals and outside agencies. In addition, the BMA also operates missions on Fast Track Cities, aiming to reduce the number of population prone to HIV infection and sexually transmitted diseases and strengthen the efficiency of operation on prevention and treatment of such diseases based on equal sex and gender. In addition, other related activities are organized such as knowledge exchange among networking agencies, BKK Pride Clinic PR to the public, mobile service units, and so on. This includes the participation in Pride Month with Rainbow Cities Network to promote social understanding and acceptance of rights and gender diversity.

                   After finishing the discussion meeting, the Ambassador and delegates visited departments of Public Health Center 3, Bang Sue, including BKK Pride Clinic, Psychological Room and Counseling Room and inquired about guidelines for operation and public service.
