On 9th April 2024 at 11.00 hrs., Mrs. Gita Sabharwal, UN Resident Coordinator in
Thailand paid a courtesy call on Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, to bid farewell on the occasion of her termination of duty in Thailand. In this regard, Mr. Pimuk Simaroj, Secretary to the Governor of Bangkok, Miss Pannarai Chingchitr, Director of International Affairs Office, and related officers, jointly welcomed at Amornphimarn Room, Bangkok City Hall.
The UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand expressed her sincere thanks to the Governor of Bangkok for his strong and continuous support of the missions of the United Nations Thailand. She also admired the Governor of Bangkok’s leadership in creating inspiration for working together on various issues which resulted in the better quality of life of the public. For example, PM 2.5 is one of the important problems in the urban area, and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has tried to solve such problems by drafting up a plan to change the types of fuels and machines used by vehicles. In the future, the BMA possibly learn from neighboring countries like Indonesia and Malaysia how to cope with forest fires and open burning which cause PM 2.5. For the UN, forest conservation has been emphasized because trees are good at absorbing air pollution and effectively alleviating the problem in the long term.
