BMA Representatives Attend 2024 Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air and Climate Actions

A delegation from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), led by Ms. Woranuch Suaykakaow, Deputy Director-General of Environment Department, along with officials from the Environment Department and the Foreign Affairs Office, attended the 2024 Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air and Climate Actions from 13–16 September 2024, at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.

The 2024 Beijing International Forum for Metropolitan Clean Air and Climate Actions is organized by the Beijing Municipal Ecology and Environment Bureau. It aims to foster exchanges between global metropolises in improving air quality and addressing climate change. The 2024 forum was held under the theme "Technological Innovation Leads Clean Air and Climate Action," focusing on the application of technologies and scientific advancements in ecology and environmental fields through the creation of platforms, establishing channels, pooling resources, and fostering international cooperation.

During the forum, the Deputy Director-General presented Bangkok’s air quality management efforts, including operational plans, air quality monitoring, and measures to tackle air quality changes, aiming to achieve the goal of becoming a sustainable city, as outlined by Governor of Bangkok, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt’s policies.

In addition to Bangkok, several other cities presented at the forum, such as Beijing (China), Seoul (South Korea), Paris (France), Bristol (UK), California (USA), Turku (Finland), etc., as well as organizations and academic institutions such as ICLEI, C40, Energy Foundation China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Strathclyde, WHO, etc.

On this occasion, the BMA and Beijing Municipality, with the cooperation of the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing, discussed bilateral cooperation on air quality management in Bangkok. Both sides agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding and launch a pilot project on high-density air quality monitoring to identify PM2.5 sources and efficiently address the issue for the benefit of Bangkok's residents.
