Irish Minister of State for Planning and Local Government Exchanged Views with Bangkok Governor
On March 18, 2025, at 09.00 hrs., H.E. Mr. John Cummins, Minister of State for Planning and Local Government, together with H.E. Mr. Patrick Bourne, Ambassador of Ireland to Thailand, and 7 delegates paid a courtesy call on Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok to exchange views on local government issues. Mr. Pornprom Vikitsreth, Advisor to Governor of Bangkok (Chief Sustainability Officer), Thosapol Suparee, Deputy Director-General of Environment Department, and officers from International Affairs Office jointly welcomed the delegation at Benchakitti Forest Park Museum (Tobacco Factory) Khlong Toei district.
The Governor of Bangkok and the Minister of State exchanged ideas on local administration and urban challenges, low-income housing development, traffic and transport, and the BMA policies, such as the Traffy Fondue platform and the 15-minute pocket parks.
After the courtesy call, the Governor of Bangkok and the Minister of State planted trees together in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Ireland and strengthening friendship ties at Benchakitti Park. The trees planted together were two jacaranda trees, and the Embassy of Ireland donated another 48 trees to the BMA to be planted in the BMA parks. In addition, the Governor of Bangkok accompanied the Minister of State and the Irish delegation to visit the Bangkok City Model Exhibition.
