Bangkok Celebrates the 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and Peru with the Unveiling Ceremony of the “Torito de Pucará” Sculpture at ICONSIAM
On Saturday, 12 July 2025, from 11.00 hrs. to 11.30 hrs., at Thara Hall, M Floor, ICONSIAM, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, presided over the unveiling ceremony of the sculpture “Torito de Pucará”, held to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Peru and the Kingdom of Thailand.
During the ceremony, H.E. Ms. Cecilia Z. Galarreta Bazán, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Peru to Thailand, delivered the opening remarks and extended congratulations on the valuable friendship between the two countries on this significant milestone. The ceremony was also honored by the attendance of ambassadors from various countries, including the Republic of Guatemala, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, the Republic of Chile, and the Republic of the Philippines. Furthermore, the ceremony featured presentations on the origin and inspiration behind the creation of each “Torito de Pucará” sculpture, designed by Thai and Peruvian artists under a contemporary concept reflecting the cultural identities of both nations. The participating artists included:
- Mr. Somnuek Klangnok, also known as “Kru Pan,” an artist known for his Modern Portrait line drawings (exhibiting at the One Bangkok).
- Ms. Sukhumal Sarakasetrin from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University (exhibiting at Phahon Yothin Station MRT station (Metro Art)).
- Mr. Chira Jiraprawat Na Ayudhya, a contemporary artist expressing Thai social contexts (exhibiting on Song Wat Road).
- Mr. Wasinburi Supanichworaphat, designer and CEO of Tao Thao Hong Tai Ceramic Factory (exhibiting at Siam Discovery).
- Mr. Diego Cornejo (SEIMIEK), a Peruvian graffiti and street artist (exhibiting at Wat Pho).
- Mr. Nakrob Moolmanas, an independent collage artist (exhibiting at ICONSIAM).
In addition to the artistic exhibitions, the general public is invited to take photos with all six “Torito de Pucará” sculptures and share them on social media for a chance to win round-trip airline tickets between Bangkok and Lima. The Embassy of the Republic of Peru will announce the winners on 10 November 2025. Following the ceremony, a celebratory toast and group photo session were held with H.E. Ms. Cecilia Z. Galarreta Bazán, the Governor of Bangkok, executives from Siam Piwat Company, and representatives from various private-sector organizations, alongside the participating artists. This commemorative event serves as a testament to the deepening relationship between Bangkok and the Republic of Peru, highlighting continued collaboration in diplomacy, culture, and creative exchange. It also reaffirms both parties’ commitment to fostering sustainable and long-lasting international partnerships into the future.
