Irish Ambassador to Thailand present books under Global Book Giveaway Initiative to Governor of Bangkok in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations
On 24th July 2025 at 10.00 hrs., H.E. Mr. Patrick Bourne, Ambassador of the Republic of Ireland to Thailand, together with Ms. Michelle Doherty, Political Counselor and Consul, paid a courtesy call on Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, to present books under the Irish Global Book Giveaway Initiative at Amornphiman Room, Bangkok City Hall (Sao Chingcha). On this occasion, Deputy Governor of Bangkok (Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon), Secretary to the Governor of Bangkok, and the BMA officials from Culture, Sport, and Tourism Department, and International Affairs Office jointly welcomed the delegation.
In this regard, the Ambassador of Ireland presented 50 books to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Ireland in 2025 as a symbol of friendship and the shared commitment to promoting cultural cooperation. The books will be distributed public libraries under the supervision of the BMA. The Global Book Giveaway Initiative was launched by the Government of Ireland in 2021. It aims to promote, share, and create connections between Ireland and the world through Irish literature. Other than the BMA, the Embassy also presented books to Neilson Hays Library, Setsatian School for the Deaf under the Royal Patronage, and Anusarnsunthorn School for The Deaf. Additionally, the Ambassador and the Governor discussed the possibility of organizing collaborative cultural activities between the BMA and the Embassy, such as Concert in the Park, open-air screenings of Irish films, and photography exhibitions.
