Bangkok and Washington D.C. Celebrate “Sawasdee DC Thai Festival,” Highlighting Over Six Decades of Strong Ties

 

                   **WASHINGTON, D.C.** – On September 14, 2025 (local time), Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, participated in the Sawasdee DC Thai Festival 2025 in Washington, D.C. organized by the Royal Thai Embassy. The event celebrated the 192nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the United States. It also honored Bangkok and Washington D.C., the capitals of both countries, for their pioneering sister-city relationship, which has spanned over 63 years.

 

                   This year, The Sawasdee DC Thai Festival Day was officially held on September 14, 2025. During the opening ceremony, Governor Chadchart delivered a speech alongside with Dr. Suriya Jindawong, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States and Ms. Kimberly Bassett, Secretary of the District of Columbia, representing Mayor Muriel Bowser. Governor Chadchart emphasized the importance of the sister city relationship between Bangkok and Washington, D.C., which was established on February 19, 1962. For over 63 years, the two cities have engaged in cooperation and exchanges in various fields, particularly in promoting mutual understanding and fostering goodwill between their people.

 

                   Following the opening ceremony, Governor Chadchart visited the exhibition booths with keen interest. The festival showcased a wide range of products from Thai entrepreneurs, including food, beverages, and souvenirs that reflect creativity and innovation. The event also served as an opportunity for Thai businesses to present their products to the U.S. market, paving the way for future business expansion.

                  

                   On this occasion, the Governor also met with Thai students currently studying in the United States, sharing his experiences and offering valuable insights on living and learning abroad, as well as his work as Governor of Bangkok. His remarks provided inspiration to the students while further strengthening the spirit of goodwill and sustainable friendship between the people of both cities and nations.
