Launch of Métis Art and Development Initiative, co-create by AFD and BMA.
BANGKOK, October 3, 2025 – Governor of Bangkok Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, launched the Métis Art and Development Initiative at Benchakitti Park, joined by H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude Poimbœuf, Ambassador of France to Thailand, and Mr. Cyrille Bellier, AFD Director of Europe, Middle East, Asia.
The Métis Initiative is a program that utilizes public art to drive community engagement, cultural exchange, and sustainable development. In partnership with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Initiative will commission large-scale wall murals across the city. Designed by AT Exchange Studio, led by artist Wasin Paisakhamas, the artworks will be created to resonate with Bangkok’s residents, promoting a greater environmental consciousness, boosting local engagement, and cultivating a creative atmosphere in the city.
Governor Chadchart highlighted the strong partnership, stating, "AFD and the French Embassy have been active partners of the BMA, helping develop Bangkok in many aspects, including street art. Street art can help the city to be more vibrant."
H.E. Mr. Poimbœuf added that “This initiative is also a testament to the power of the community. The core of the Métis project is collaboration, involving local communities, young artists, and academics in the creative process. By working together, they will create murals that not only beautify the city but also tell a story of a shared dream of a greener Bangkok, a 'Dream Your Green Bangkok' as we say.”
The launch concluded with the artist team encouraging everyone to follow the journey of the first mural in Benchakitti Park and invited to express their creativity and vision for a "Greener, Livable Urban City" by collaboratively painting on a canvas.
