Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Embassy of Peru Unveil “Peru–Thailand United by Art” Mural to Celebrate 60 Years of Diplomatic Relations
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Peru in Thailand, unveiled the mural “Peru–Thailand United by Art” to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Peru. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, and Ms. Cecilia Zunilda Gallarreta Bazán, Ambassador of Peru to Thailand. The event was also attended by ambassadors from various countries such as the ambassadors of Colombia, Guatemala, Chile, and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The mural was created by Peruvian graffiti artist Diego Cornejo, also known as “Seimiek”, is located on Samran Rat Road, adjacent to Bangkok City Hall (Sao Ching Cha). It depicts symbols of friendship between the two cultures, featuring a llama and an elephant as representative animals, surrounded by cats, flowers, mountains, and the sun, symbols of wisdom, vitality, and the spiritual connection between Inca civilization and Buddhism.
At the opening ceremony, the Governor of Bangkok remarked that the mural marks an important milestone in Thai – Peruvian friendship and reflects the power of art to connect people and foster mutual understanding. He expressed Bangkok’s pride in supporting cultural projects that strengthen international relations and thanked the Peruvian Embassy and the artist for bringing new inspiration and color to the city. The Ambassador of Peru stated that the event is part of the “Peru and Thailand United by Art” initiative, which also includes the “Torito de Pucará” activity and the mural unveiling to celebrate the longstanding ties between the two nations. She expressed gratitude to the Governor and all involved parties for their support and collaboration, while presenting prizes such as round-trip tickets to Peru and other gifts to participants.
The event featured a musical performance by the Bangkok Metropolitan Orchestra (BMO), including Peruvian pieces such as El Cóndor Pasa and La Flor de la Canela, alongside Thai royal compositions Magic Beams and Still on My Mind. The performances highlighted friendship, mutual understanding, and cultural cooperation between Thailand and Peru. Both the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Embassy of Peru reaffirmed their commitment to continuing collaborative efforts in the arts in the future. In addition, the event included a refreshment booth presented by AJE Thai Co., Ltd., a beverage company producing non-caffeinated soft drinks under the brand “AJE Big Cola.” AJEGROUP, the parent company based in Peru, is dedicated to beverage production and distribution, with manufacturing plants in 12 countries across Latin America and Asia, including Peru, Mexico, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Vietnam, and Thailand.
