BMA Collaborates with the Danish Embassy and Novo Nordisk to Sign MoU on “Bangkok, City for Better Health”
(5 November 2025, 10:00 a.m.) — Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, together with
H.E. Mr. Danny Annan, Ambassador of Denmark to Thailand, and Novo Nordisk Pharma (Thailand) Co., Ltd., signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch the “Bangkok, City for Better Health” Project. The initiative aims to promote healthier lifestyles and prevent as well as manage obesity, particularly among children in Bangkok — where childhood obesity rates remain among the highest in the country. This collaborative initiative focuses on four key areas:
- Healthy meals through the central kitchen model;
- Childhood education via the “Don’t Let Kids Be Fat” curriculum;
- Health tracking devices to encourage regular physical activity; and
- Public recreation, including new facilities in Lumphini and Benchakitti Parks, inspired by Copenhagen’s SPOR10
The program also promotes nutritious school lunches to support children’s healthy growth and reduce obesity risks.
Governor Chadchart noted that Bangkok, as a modern metropolis filled with convenience, has inadvertently fostered a sedentary lifestyle, resulting in the highest proportion of overweight residents in Thailand. He emphasized that obesity is a major public health challenge, contributing to chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes, and underscored the importance of developing “Healthy Infrastructure” to promote sustainable well-being for all Bangkok residents.
In addition, Dr. Lertluck Leelaruangsang, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the BMA, participated in the panel discussion “Urban Health Unveiled: Navigating Current Challenges and Solutions,” where she highlighted the key health challenges currently faced by Bangkok and Thailand, discussed the health status of Bangkok’s population, and addressed the urgent health priorities identified by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA). She was joined by Dr. Krisada Hanbancherd, Director of the Division of Non-Communicable Diseases, Ministry of Public Health, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phet Rodaree, President of the Thai NCD Network.
