Bangkok Governor Leads Executive Delegation to Shenzhen, China (November 14–17, 2025) to Adopt "Smart City" Innovations for Enhanced Urban Quality of Life

The Governor of Bangkok led a delegation of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) executives on an official visit to Shenzhen, People's Republic of China. Building upon prior discussions with the Mayor of Shenzhen, this visit aimed to strengthen sister city ties and explore proactive cooperation with government agencies, state-owned enterprises, and leading global private sector partners. The mission focused on leveraging technology to address urban challenges across three key dimensions: Smart City & Mobility, Sustainable Environmental Management, and Urban Health & Wellness."

Dimension 1: Smart Mobility & Governance The BMA executive delegation participated in the China High-Tech Fair 2025 (CHTF 2025), organized under the concept of driving cities with smart technology, with a focus this year on Smart City Solutions and environmental technology. Concurrently, the delegation held discussions with representatives from Huawei Technologies to explore the application of IoT and AI in government systems and infrastructure, and to apply these technologies to the BMA's "Digital Classroom" education development policy. Additionally, BMA representatives engaged in discussions with BYD regarding the transition of public transport and government vehicle fleets to electric vehicles (EV Transition), specifically focusing on the policy to transition garbage collection trucks from diesel to electric power. The delegation also conferred with Eternal Asia Supply Chain Management on urban development to enhance logistics management efficiency, which will enable the BMA to facilitate private sector logistics and effectively increase the city's economic value.

Dimension 2: Sustainable Environmental Management (Green & Clean Bangkok) To promote efficiency in waste and wastewater management, the delegation explored innovations with two key organizations: Waste Management: Discussions were held with Tenglang Recycling Resources Development to study models for waste recycling and circular resource management. Wastewater Management: The delegation consulted with CGN Nuclear Technology Development and Power China to apply advanced technologies for water treatment and urban water system management.

Dimension 3: Elevating Urban Health and Wellness The delegation focused on medical technology through discussions with BGI Group, a leader in genomics and life sciences, and Mindray Medical Technology, a specialist in smart medical devices. The objective is to modernize hospitals and public health centers under the BMA and upgrade medical infrastructure to effectively meet public demand.

The success of this visit will be immediately translated into a concrete action plan to upgrade Bangkok's infrastructure and public services. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is committed to adapting successful lessons from Shenzhen to the Thai context, driving Bangkok to keep pace with global developments and grow steadily alongside its sister city.
