Governor of Bangkok Inaugurate the New Community Playground at Lumpini Park with Australian Ambassador to Thailand
On 3 December 2025 at 10.00 hrs., the Governor of Bangkok presided over the opening of a new community playground in Lumpini Park, together with H.E. Dr. Angela Macdonald PSM, Australian Ambassador, Dr. Aphichai Chairoj, the Assistant Director of BNH Hospital, and Ms. Pawinee Songngendee, representatives of Leka Studio. This is a collaborative project between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Australian Embassy, designed with an Australian theme.
The playground is the first in a public park in Bangkok to be fully accessible for wheelchair users. The opening also coincided with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, underscoring efforts to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities. The playground was designed by Leka Studio, specialists in designing, manufacturing, and installing play and recreational facilities. It features both interactive and physical play activities for children, along with a brightly colored impact-absorbing surface. Children can hop like kangaroos on spring riders, climb like koalas, and explore musical play equipment inspired by the emu—creating an inclusive and imaginative play environment for all.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. Angela Macdonald, Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Australia to Thailand, stated, “This community playground reflects the strong partnership between Australia and Thailand, providing a fun and safe space where children of all abilities can play together. We thank Leka Studio for their creative ideas and design, which highlight Australia’s unique wildlife to promote imagination and movement”.
Governor of Bangkok, Chadchart Sittipunt, added, “This playground is a valuable addition to the park and an excellent example of what we can achieve together through collaboration. I would like to thank the Australian Embassy for bringing this concept into reality and for promoting inclusivity in the heart of our city”.
Afterwards, all distinguished guests, together with students from Suanlumpinee School, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open the playground. The playground is located at Lumphini Park near Entrance 2, close to the intersection of Witthayu Road and Rama IV.
