Bangkok Metroplolitan Administration Participates in Promoting the End Violence Against Women and Children through the A Safe Journey with Her 2025

On 30 November 2025, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), in collaboration with the Embassies of the Benelux Union countries in Thailand, comprising Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg—together with UN Women, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the Bangkok Urban Cycling Alliance (BUCA), hosted a bike ride and picnic “A Safe Journey with Her” 2025 at the Benjakitti Forest Park. This event was held under the theme “Digital Violence is Real Violence”. It aims to raise awareness about digital safety and promote the role of families and society in protecting women and children. This event is part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. It is an annual international campaign that runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day).

The event opened with remarks by H.E. Mr. Michel Parys, Ambassador of Kingdom of Belgium to Thailand, followed by speeches from the event co-hosts, namely the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, UN Women on behalf of the United Nations in Thailand, and the BMA. After Mr. Terames Lertsavetpong from the Bangkok Urban Cycling Alliance (BUCA) had given safety instructions for bike riding, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, together with the Deputy Governors of Bangkok (Mr. Wisanu Subsompon and Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon), led a bike ride with ambassadors from the Benelux Union countries and representatives from UN Women and UNFPA.

The biking route started at the Benjakitti Forest Park Museum Building, passed through the Green Bridge to Lumpini Park, and included a stop to take a photo at the Thai–Belgian Bridge, which symbolizes the strong relationship between the two countries. Then, the cyclists returned via the Green Bridge to finish at the Benjakitti Forest Park Museum Building. In addition to biking, attendees participated in a pledge-writing activity on a pledge wall to combat gender-based violence. The event also featured family-friendly activities, including picnics, as well as activities and games for children. To enhance the atmosphere, the BMA also provided musical performances for the entertainment of all participants.

The “A Safe Journey with Her” bike event aims to raise public awareness about ending violence, especially for women and children, both online and offline. It also aligned closely with 4 Sustainable Development Goals, namely No. 5, which champions Gender Equality, No. 10 dedicated to reducing inequalities, No. 16, which seeks to foster Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and No. 17 focused on building effective Partnerships for the Goals. This event not only promotes cycling as an alternative way of transportation but also serves as a powerful symbol of unity and resilience in the fight against gender-based violence. These efforts reinforce the BMA’s goal to make Bangkok a safe city for all.
