Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Embassy of Ireland hosted in “Music in the Park” to Celebrate 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations

On December 7, 2025, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), in collaboration with Embassy of Ireland in Thailand, hosted the “Music in the Park” event at Benchakitti Park to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the Republic of Ireland. The event was opened by the remarks of H.E. Mr. Patrick Bourne, Ambassador of Ireland to Thailand, and Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, and then Mr. Soraphot Worasaeng, conductor of Bangkok Metropolitan Orchestra (BMO), was presented with a bouquet. This “Music in the Park” was offered free of charge to the public and was a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the cozy atmosphere in the park at the heart of Bangkok. The music performance featured a selection of iconic songs by world-renowned Irish artists, such as U2, Westlife, The Corrs, The Script, Hozier, Enya, and others, arranged in orchestral version and performed by the Bangkok Metropolitan Orchestra.

This “Music in the Park” event is an initiative of the Embassy of Ireland following several prior collaborations with the BMA. In March, H.E. Mr. John Cummins, Minister of State for Planning and Local Government of Ireland, together with the Ambassador and the Governor of Bangkok, planted 2 Jacaranda trees at Benchakitti Park and donated 48 trees for planting at other BMA public parks. Then, the Ambassador participated in the “Bangkok We Are OK!” concert at Lumphini Park to help boost public confidence among Thai and foreign residents following the significant earthquake that occurred on March 28, 2025. In July, the Ambassador paid a courtesy call to the Governor of Bangkok to present 50 books under the Global Book Giveaway Initiative to be distributed to the BMA libraries.

“Music in the Park” events, held in various BMA public parks, align with the Governor of Bangkok’s 9 Guiding Policies to promote the use of public spaces for artistic and cultural activities, create opportunities for people to relax and enjoy time together, and ensure ease of access for all. This performance received an overwhelming response from the public.
