Bangkok and Japan Exchange Best Practices on Road Safety and Smart Traffic Management

(January 15, 2026), Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, welcomed the Cabinet Office of Japan delegation, led by Mrs. Ritsuko YAMAZAKI-HONDA, Counsellor in Charge of Traffic Safety, Directorate for Promoting Cohesion and Mutual Cooperation, to discuss on transformative road safety policies and technological applications.

Through the exchange, both recognized that common challenges faced by many countries include law enforcement, inter-agency coordination, and strengthening risk communication capacity with the public—particularly concerning motorcycle accidents. Motorcycle-related crashes involve complex contributing factors such as rider behavior, speed, alcohol consumption, helmet use, infrastructure, vehicle standards, legislation, and the urban environment. Bangkok Governor Chadchart expressed its readiness to cooperate with the Government of Japan in developing knowledge and supporting evidence-based policymaking, with the shared ultimate goal of achieving “safe roads with zero fatalities from road traffic accidents.”

Following the meeting, the delegation visited the Bangkok Traffic Technology System Center (Sao Chingcha) to receive a briefing on traffic management operations and inter-agency data integration, as well as future plans for adopting new technologies to enhance urban traffic management. This visit marked another important step in strengthening cooperation between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Government of Japan toward the development of a safe, efficient, and sustainable city.

On this occasion, Mr. Wisanu Subsompon, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, along with BMA executives, executives from the Traffic and Transportation Department, and relevant officials, were present to welcome the delegation at Amarin Room, Bangkok City Hall (Sao Chingcha).
