On 9 February 2026, a delegation from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), led by Dr. Lertluck Leelarueangsang, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, together with BMA officials and youth representatives, participated in activities under the Specialized Youth Exchange Program (SYEP) in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan. The program aims to provide youth with opportunities to learn entrepreneurial concepts and to develop business models that can be applied to address urban and community challenges in real-world contexts.

At the beginning of the exchange program, the BMA delegation and youth participants paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Hattori Setaro, Governor of Fukuoka Prefecture, at the Fukuoka Prefectural Government Building, and to Mr. Masayuki Nakao, Vice Chairman of the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly, at the Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly. These visits were intended to further strengthen the long-standing sister-city relationship between Bangkok and Fukuoka, which has spanned over 20 years. The two sides also exchanged views on youth development and the promotion of entrepreneurship at the city level, which are regarded as key mechanisms for driving sustainable urban development, fostering an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs, and enhancing youth participation.

In addition, the BMA delegation and youth participants paid a courtesy visit to the Consul-General in Fukuoka to receive recommendations on strengthening Thailand–Japan cooperation at the local level, as well as on approaches to supporting future youth exchange activities.

The Specialized Youth Exchange Program is an annual initiative aimed at strengthening friendly relations between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Fukuoka Prefecture. Under this project, activities in Thailand were conducted from 21–25 December 2025 in Bangkok, while activities in Japan are scheduled to be held from 8–13 February 2026 in Fukuoka . The program involves six youth participants from Bangkok and six from Fukuoka Prefecture, totaling 12 participants.
