Chicago Forum on Global Cities Governor of Bangkok participates in the Chicago Forum on Global Cities 2016 (Wednesday, June 29, 2016)

M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, Governor of Bangkok led the BMA delegates to Chicago during 30 May – 5 June 2016 to participate in the Chicago Forum on Global City and to join the round table discussion of the Global Cities’ mayors hosted by the Mayor of Chicago.

The round table discussion was held at the Park Hyatt, Chicago with 14 mayors, governors and city’s representatives from Bangkok (Thailand), Santiago (Chile), Tübingen (Germany), Guangzhou (China), Kiev (Ukraine), Philadelphia (USA), Birmingham (UK), New Orleans (USA), Warsaw (Poland), Atlanta (USA) and Galway (Ireland). The participants addressed global challenges such as climate change, cyber crime and resilience.

The Governor of Bangkok also participated in the opening programme of the Chicago Forum on Global Cities which is the panel discussion under the topic of the Power and Limitation of Global Cities. He mentioned that the discontinuity of the government and the absence of long term plan of Bangkok affected some mega-projects. However, with the Bangkok 20-year plan in place since 2012, the development of the city should meet the needs of the people in the city.
