(10 July 2015) M.R Sukhumbhand Paribatra, the Governor of Bangkok, warmly welcomed Mr. Ai Xuefeng, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen, on an official visit to Bangkok to pay a courtesy call the Governor of Bangkok and attend the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Sister City Relations.
During the courtesy call , the Vice Mayor of Shenzhen emphasized on the importance of the City of Shenzhen as China's first special economic zone under the "Open Door Policy" of the former President Teng Xiaoping. Shenzhen has approximately 18 million populations and a total economic value of 2,800 million USD. On this occasion, Mr. Ai Xuefeng stated that it was Shenzhen's pleasure to officially establish relations and initiate cooperation with Bangkok, a capital city and a political, economic and cultural center of Thailand. Moreover, on behalf of Shenzhen Universiade International Scholarship Foundation, the Vice Mayor gave 2 scholarships for an undergraduate or a postgraduate program worth 40,000 and 45,000 RMB respectively at Shenzhen University. It was intended for the human resource development of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
After the courtesy call, the Governor and the Vice Mayor signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Sister City Relations between the City of Bangkok of the Kingdom of Thailand and the City of Shenzhen of the People's Republic of China to strengthen the understanding and goodwill between the Cities as well as encourage practical cooperation in the future and to promote mutual prosperity and development on principles of equality and mutual benefits.
