Executive Board Meeting of Asian Mayors Forum in Iran
Dr. Vallop Suwandee, Chairman of Advisers to Governor of Bangkok, represented Bangkok in the Fifth Executive Board Meeting of Asian Mayors Forum (AMF), held in Tehran and Qazvin, Islamic Republic of Iran, from 29 August to 1 September 2015. The Board was informed of AMF’s operation during the past year and the preparation progress of next year’s General Assembly of the AMF to be held in Gaziantep, Republic of Turkey. As the floor was opened for suggestions on contents and topics of the next Assembly, Dr. Vollop proposed the topic regarding how local government can gain more autonomy from central government, which was accepted as an agenda for the next meeting.
There are also two minor sessions included, Sustainable Urban Transportation in Asian Cities and Culture and Economy of Urban Tourism in Asian Cities. The traffic panel suggested that the members should improve cooperation and dialogue to solve transport problems using a human-centered approach, and the tourism panel proposed to form an alliance committee to promote tourism industry. Furthermore, there were initiations to hold meetings for local authorities to exchange their experience, and to train youngsters as young mayors and young managers.
