The Governor of Bangkok, BMA Executives, and officials, visited the Netherlands during 6 - 12 June 2015 to attend the 2nd Policing in Global Cities Conference in Rotterdam, as well as to seek for cooperation on water management and climate change countermeasures with various entities of the Netherlands.
The 2nd Policing in Global Cities Conference is a platform for city leaders to exchange their experiences on challenges in policing in metropolis, coping with both direct and indirect policing threats, especially terrorism and cybercrime. The themes that were adressed this year were: Counter Terrorism and Community Cohesion; Resilient Cities and Cyber Crime; and Crime Prevention and Perception of Safety.
On this occasion, the delegation also took a study visit on water management at Deltares, a research institute specialized in water, soil, public utilities management and software engineering. During the visit, Deltares demonstrated some fascinating flood prevention system software, such as CIRCLE (Critical Infrastructures: Relations and Consequences for Life and Environment) which effectively predict flood situation and its effects toward public utilities affecting lives and environment of the city. In addition, Deltares also introduced such an interesting software as Delft3Di, a 3D environment simulator, and Delft-FEWS, a flood forecasting system.
Moreover, Mr. Amorn Kitchawengkul, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, had a meeting with Mr. Ahmed Aboutaleb, the Mayor of Rotterdam, at Rotterdam City Hall. The Mayor pointed out that Bangkok and Rotterdam have been chosen as the members of Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) which is obligated to increase city’s capacity to be able to recover after any manmade or natural disasters, tensions, and destructive events. Thus, this can be an exchange platform, especially on water management and flood prevention. Besides, the two cities could initiate a bilateral relations, which will bring about practical cooperation and exchanges in the future.
