On 5 April 2012 at 16.00 hrs., M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, Governor of Bangkok led BMA and Mdm. Hajjah Patahiyah Bt. Ismail, President of Municipal Council of Penang Island and Mayor of George Town, Malaysia signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the establishment of Friendly Cities between Bangkok and Municipal Council of Penang Island and George Town at Rattanakosin Room, Bangkok City Hall. In this connection, George Town was the 21th sister city of Bangkok. The parties will enhance people – to – people friendly exchanges and carry out cooperation in such fields as of administration, economy, industry, environment, health, science and technology, culture, education and tourism.
