Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan Province in the southwest of China. The city is located between 30º 05' - 31º 26' of north latitude and 102º 54' - 104º 53' of east longitude.
Chengdu has a total area of 12,390 square kilometers which consist of 40.1% of plains,32.3% of mountains and 27.6% of hills. The city borders De Yang to the northeast, Zhi Yang to the southeast, Ya An to the southeast, Mei Shan to the south and Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in the northwest. In 2023, Chengdu has a population of 9,653,772.
The city lies on the basin of the Min Jiang and Tuo Jiang Rivers, the first-stage tributaries of the Chang Jiang River. The famous mountains in Chengdu include Mount Long, Mount Qiong Lai, Mount Long Quan, Mount Chang Qiu, Mount Qingcheng, etc. There are various verified mineral resources, such as coal, calcium Glauber's salt, natural gas, mineral water, etc.

Chengdu is the center of commerce, logistics, finance and science & technology, and the hub of transport and communication in the western China. Economy of Chengdu has been growing continuously as the result of the National Western Development Program.
In the recent years, the city is turning into an international metropolis by implementing its strategy utilizing five opportunities, which are the New Round of Western Development Program, Pilot Zone of National Rural and Urban Coordination, accelerating the Construction of Tianfu New Area, Optimization of National Hi-tech Industry Development Zone and the North City Reconstruction Project. Furthermore, Chengdu has developed its economy by establishing these development zones; Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, Economic & Technological Development Zone and Hi-tech Comprehensive Bonded Area.
Chengdu is the homeland of giant pandas, which are the symbols of peace and friendship. These giant pandas play the important role as a bridge of friendship between the people of Chengdu and the people from other places in the world.
