IAO History

 

Background

The history of International Affairs Office of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) started from the Foreign Relations Section under the Public Relations Division, and, with increased missions on international affairs, cooperation, and protocols, undergone several reorganizations and developments, as follows:

 

1995 A.D. (2538 B.E.)
Originally part of Public Relations Division, the Foreign Affairs Section was upgraded to International Affairs Division, and transferred to be under BMA Policy and Planning Department. Responsibilities included promoting international exchanges, cooperations, collaborations, and protocols for the city of Bangkok. The Division was divided into 2 sections: Foreign Relations Section 1, and Foreign Relations Section 2.
2002 A.D. (2545 B.E.)
International Affairs Division went through reorganization to redefine the responsibilities of the existing Foreign Relations Section 1 and 2, which led to the addition of Foreign Relation Section 3.
2004 A.D. (2547 B.E.)
International Affairs Division was transferred to Office of the Permanent Secretary for the BMA, to continue international collaborations and other urgent mission of the BMA related to international affairs. The organization included Foreign Relations Section 1, Foreign Relations Section 2, and General Affairs Section.
2016 A.D. (2559 B.E.)
The Division was upgraded to International Affairs Office, to be able to response to missions on international relations of the city of Bangkok more proactively. The organization of the Office included General Affairs Section, City Relations Promotion Division, and City Capacity Promotion Division.
