“Trait d’Union – Thailand–France, from daily life to lasting ties”

On 12 May 2026, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, the Governor of Bangkok, presided over the award presentation ceremony for the photography contest and the opening ceremony of the photography exhibition “Trait d’Union – Thailand–France, from daily life to lasting ties” in celebration of the 170th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the French Republic. The event was attended by H.E. Mr. Jean-Claude Poimboeuf, Ambassador of France to Thailand, and Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Thailand, at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC).

“Trait”, a small line that connects everything together. In French, “Trait d’Union” means a hyphen (-), symbolizing the connection that links two cultures through various aspects of everyday life: on a plate of food, in historic buildings, in classrooms, or even in the smiles between people from opposite sides of the world. The photographs featured in this exhibition were taken by ordinary individuals who perceived these connections and wished to tell their stories through their own lenses. In his closing remarks, The Governor of Bangkok stated, “These photographs are not merely images; they are records of the connecting points of shared experiences — in architecture, cuisine, and smiles — which form the very heart of the friendship that has endured for 170 years.”

The exhibition “Trait d’Union – Thailand–France, from daily life to lasting ties” features more than 40 photographic works, along with historical documents related to the relationship between Thailand and the French Republic. The exhibition is being held at the exhibition hall on the 3rd floor of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre from 12–24 May 2026.
